Romanian director Cristian Mungiu’s latest film “Fjord” won the prestigious Palme d’Or at the 79th Cannes Film Festival, which concluded on Saturday evening.
The Romanian director joins the select circle of filmmakers awarded twice with Cannes’ top prize, while Fjord marks his first English-language feature and Sebastian Stan’s first “Romanian” film.
Romanian director and screenwriter Cristian Mungiu has become the 10th filmmaker in Cannes history to win the Palme d’Or twice – 19 years after his 2007 triumph with ‘4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days’. No filmmaker has ever won the award three times.
